Exquisite craftsmanship at Cluny

Since the beginning of July 70 regional ceramists and potters have been displaying their work at the "Ecuries St Hugues" just off the main square in Cluny where the market takes place every Saturday.

A relaxing atmosphere awaits where you can escape from the heat to admire the craftsmanship, it is also possible to purchase one of these little treasures and prices start from as little as 10€.

I am just admiring my purchase of a beautiful blue ceramic bowl that goes perfectly on my mantelpiece that I acquired for 18€!

This event which is on until the 18th September was organised to honour the famous ceramist Frère Daniel - Daniel de Montmolin, who has just celebrated his 90th birthday this month.

Entry is free and is open Tuesday to Sunday 10-12pm and 3-7pm - definitely worth a visit!

Also on this week is an exposition by the Glasshouse de Sivignon. I have never such divine pieces of glasswear. So different yet simplistic in their forms, to own one of these pieces would definitely make an impression on any visitor!

The exposition is just off the market square opposite the ceramic and pottery event until next Monday. They also have a show room in Sivignon just west of Cluny and is open to the public Monday to Friday from 10am-6pm. Take a look at their website: Glasshouse de Sivignon

What a treat! Access to the grounds of La Clayette's spectacular chateau and a horse riding event!

Saturday was spent wandering round admiring the spectacular grounds of La Clayette's famous chateau, which is a privately owned chateau by the De Noblet family since 1722 and so is very rare to gain access. But as the annual horse riding event - Le concours hippique National - was taking place in the grounds we were able to get close up to the chateau and marvel in it's beauty!

The weather did not disappoint and luckily I managed to grab a seat in the shade as 34°C is a bit hot for my British complexion!!

Le concours hippique National started in 1951, and each year is held in the chateau grounds. It represents one of the qualifying rounds for the France PRO and France PRO 2 championships.

Before the horse jumping began I was able to chat briefly with some of the riders Ludivine Mazuir who was riding Romaine de la Bresse, Nina Marchand on L'élite du chene, and Adeline Comte who was riding Lysa d'Ecula. They had ridden the day before and Adeline had won second place, but today's placings started from zero again so there was all to play for!

The atmosphere was fantastic with stands of food and drink and music to one side of the competition area and the judges stand at the other.

The three riders I spoke to did very well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day relaxing in the magnificent surroundings and admiring the horses and their riders.

On the rare occasions that the chateau is open to the public I definitely suggested a visit!

Bargain property near Cluny!!

Just found out about this real bargain property which is just south of Cluny.

It is on the market at the tiny price of 60,000€!

This charming village property not only offers space with 150m2 of living area but also benefits from an external area of 140m2 comprising a courtyard, garage, and cellar.

At the moment it is pretty basic, but it wouldn't take much to turn this into a real little gem! And with a view over the village from the terrace, what more can you ask for at 60,000€!

Property prices in Burgundy still 3rd lowest in the country!

After looking over property statistics on immoprix.com I was surprised to see that Burgundy house prices are still in 3rd position being one of the cheapest areas to buy property in France!

The area I cover as a buying agent is the Saône-et-Loire, more precisely the Maconnais/Clunisois region and the Charollais/Brionnais region, the former being the most expensive area of the Saône-et-Loire and the latter being the cheapest, which means I have a great range of properties and prices to choose from for my clients looking to purchase a real slice of French life.

With prices being the 3rd lowest in the country it is surely good news for foreign buyers as they are bound to find their dream French property at a bargain price in this beautiful area of Burgundy!
